Ernesto Artillo
Ernesto Artillo is a Spanish artist who is interested in gender, social media identity, the human body as a tool for advertisement, certainty, and other types of love. Photography, collage, film, costumes, scenography, installation, and performance are only a few of the many mediums in which he expresses himself, all in his own distinct style.
He works for a variety of fashion brands, including Celine, Elie Saab, and Mango, to give their ad campaigns the artistic lift that only a true innovator can provide. In his own words, Ernesto described his method, saying, "For me, collage means detaching from my tendency of keeping everything in order. I’m constantly trying to become more abstract and less geometric. It allows me to literally cut/break with things – even though they are my own pictures – to create a new order. I suppose collage makes me challenge my own conventions.” Artillos diverse influences include everything from modern and high Renaissance art to flamenco dancing and the bullring, as well as the fine details of clothing and the models that wear them.
Ernesto's work intrigued me as I am slowly starting to do photography work and I love his ideas for thes collages. He uses neutrals and a lot of blue hues which creates a sophisticated atmosphere, perfect for high fashion. I'd like to try and recreate some of these with my own photography. I want to represent emotions and beauty during the pandemic. This type of work is also seen in a lot of fashion marketing campaigns and it's a good start to understand the industry and how to 'sell' something to the viewer.
Right now my main goal is to convey emotions, happy or sad. I will have a photoshoot on Wednesday 28/04/21 with the help of Amy (assistant).
