Artist Research - Peter DeVito

 Peter DeVito

Peter DeVito is an American photographer/artist who is situated in New York. In 2019, he moved on from the Fashion Institute of Technology with a BFA. DeVito is broadly known for his picture photography, explicitly for his incorporation of all various sorts of models.

I have researched him before, but when I think of someone who inspires my current work of research and art - it's him. DeVito does journalistic interviews with his models and visually represents their feelings through images and and quotes. This is similar to what I want to do with this project as I have ideas of doing interviews/surveys of people and their opinions on fashion/beauty during the pandemic and how it will affect us in the future. This is so important to me as I feel any work that I do should be backed up with real experiences and evidence.

I may not be a photographer, but his work really resonates with me because he also sees his models as a work of art just by the way he captures their beauty. I too, have a deep interest in people and culture, therefore I will use his ways of work to enhance my own ideas in moving forward with this project.

More Than A Trend (2018)

This project was a statement against making trends out of normal everyday people, having body hair, wrinkles or looking a certain 'size' shouldn't be made into this miniscule celebratory moment, instead it should be respected - always. The project debuted on Allure and was also covered by NYLON and Huffington Post.

I really appreciate how Peter did many close ups to the models as it instantly shows their vulnerability to show their authentic selves that is accompanied by a personal statement about their thoughts on the given topic. I'd like to do something similar in terms of gathering contextual research. 

Overall, I think he is a great role model for the younger generation and I can't wait for his next piece of work.
