Observational + Experimental Drawing

Observational Drawing
I didn't have any observational drawings, therefore I gathered any pieces that relate to my project (post-pandemic fashion), the focus was more so onto media experimentation. For this piece I did some layering, I started ripping pieces from brown cardboard paper and sticking it onto the white A4 paper one by one. I then wanted to draw over it but made silly mistakes. I wanted to be more free with this task so I finger painted on top using acrylic paint to fix the mistake. I mixed red and white to create a vibrant fuchsia/red colour for the shoes. After it dried, I went in with a thick black sharpie marker and sketched out the shoes, adding depth and shadows using line strokes. This task was difficult for me as I don't like to do spontaneous things, I usually have an end goal of how a piece would look like, but for a sketch I think it looks good.

Process

For first drawing, I wanted to use texture into my work, hence the cardboard. I did this piece using pencil, a sharpie, and soft pastels. Today I am going with emotions, my lack of motivation and anxiety has been at an all time high. Instead of doing nothing, I channelled it through these drawings. I want to show my emotion, and that it's okay to not be perfect all the time.

For the second drawing I wanted to try water colour again as I dislike it the most due to it being the least controllable media, however, when it comes to representing emotions it's the perfect media to use as the colours blend together and create motion - just like our feelings. I was feeling particularly down today, so I used mostly cool tones like blues and greens.

Overall, these pieces are a way to reflect where my thought process is right now. I have many different ideas that I will have to work on. I really need to get out of my head and be free with experimentation during this stage and that's going to be my main goal for the weeks ahead.
